Joe Root stated despite failing to recover the Ashes he is still the man.
Defeat in the first Test at Old Trafford left England 2-1 supposed the holders will choose the urn down under and down with one game to play with.
Root presided over England’s 4-0 defeat in Australia in 2017-18.
“I’ve been provided a wonderful opportunity to captain the Evaluation side and will keep working quite difficult at doing my best at this,” said Root.
“That’s in my control I have to make sure I do all I could to get this group in the very ideal shape to acquire as many matches as possible.”
Root, 28, took charge of the Test side along with his win percent of 50 is far much better than most but Michael Vaughan at the past 38 decades.
Root will become the England skipper since 2001.
“Whenever you drop a series, it hurts,” said the Yorkshire batsman. “I have to accept that on the brow. You need to appear at places you want to get better atboth on your own and as a group.”
His attention promptly turned into the fifth Test at The Oval, which starts on Thursday.
While a loss would leave them england can draw at 2-2. They are also searching for points in the World Test Championship that is new.
“We’ve got to look forward to the next Test match and have something from the show,” he explained.
“I understand the Ashes aren’t coming home, however regarding the Evaluation Championship, those points might be critical.
“You don’t ever need to drop an Ashes series and each match against Australia matters. Turning up in the Oval and placing in a solid performance to win the match is crucial for this team”
England needed to bat out the final day at Old Trafford so as to make a draw.
At their target of 383 unrealistic, 18-2, living 98 overs to remain in the show their only alternative, they resumed on.
The hosts lost their eighth wicket using 29.1 overs remaining, only for Craig Overton along with also Jack Leach to boost hopes by batting jointly for over an hour.
And Root said that his group have been taking inspiration from their incredible triumph, when Leach helped Ben Stokes add 73 for the wicket.
“With the nature of the category, we constantly believe,” added Root. “That was certainly the feeling in the dressing room.
“The guys battled incredibly bravely. They place a high price and dug in. That nearly makes it a tiny bit more difficult to take but in the same time I couldn’t be pleased with the way we fought now.”
Leach and Overton have been ignored in the space of 11 balls, meaning Australia will depart England.
In addition, it refused England the chance of a World Cup-Ashes doublecheck. Root, though, refused any suggestion that the efforts put into winning the World Cup for the first time diverted the players.
“You become an Ashes series you place everything you can into it,” he said.
“You leave out everything on the area. That has been done by Everybody. Sometimes we haven’t been in our best. We’ve played an excellent side that’s done well in these states.”
