Liverpool penalty and Hamza Choudhury yellow right decisions – Ref Watch

 In Uncategorized

Liverpools late penalty and Hamza Choudhury card for a tackle on Mohamed Salah were equally decisions, Dermot Gallagher has said on Ref Watch.
The former Premier League referee cast his expert eye on the weekends activity, where VAR once more played its role, and gave his comments on a number of the big conclusions…
INCIDENT: In the games last minutes, Liverpool had been awarded a penalty following Mark Albrighton caught the foot of Sadio Mane in the region, sending the forward over. Referee Chris Kavanagh pointed to the place and means of a VAR review supported the conclusion. James Milner awakened to convert the spot-kick and win the match for Liverpool.
DERMOTS VERDICT choice.
DERMOT SAYS:We talk about it due to how Mane went , he did not go down too well, but I think that it is a foul and as soon as you provide a filthy, you have to give a penalty. The problem we have is that we talk about minimal touch and moving down theatricallythat he can do so, but I do think he had been fouled.
INCIDENT: Just prior to the punishment, Mohamed Salah was hacked by Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury as he drove towards the box. Choudhury has been given a yellow card while Salah limped off the area, even though he hasnt suffered any damage.
Klopp said after the match:I stay here and ought to be only happy because of how the boys did this, but I cant get within the Choudhury yellow card. He must know. He perhaps was unlucky with (Matt) Ritchie, however he must calm down. You cannot only opt for the man, a yellow card.
DERMOTS VERDICT choice.
DERMOT SAYS:I dont think he even catches him with his boot. Its a yellow-card challenge and if you look at it, he is caught by him with the aspect of the leg. He is low, he has come a brief distance and Salah is moving away from him so it isnt the rate and intensity of hitting bloke directly on, so I believe its a yellow card.
INCIDENT: There was another late VAR call in the London Stadium. Jordan Ayew scored in the 87th minute, for offside, but the linesman ruled it out. The decision moved to VAR which revealed Martin Kelly – that helped the goal – and also Ayew were both onside, awarding Crystal Palace that the objective and overturning the phone.
The VERDICT: Correct choice of DERMOT.
DERMOT SAYS:It is an amazing decision, since there were two. There is the first one where Angelo Ogbonna keeps as he heads it back on Martin Kelly onside. Ryan Fredericks keeps Jordan Ayew onside.
People say to me concerning the time frame [of this VAR test ], that was just two minutes, however you just need to check at it to see how tight of a telephone its and they had to build it up. You can see they have taken time and they have it right. Youd rather take the time to get it right than look now and find it ought to have remained disallowed.
INCIDENT: Earlier in the match, Crystal Palace were given a penalty after the ball struck the arm of Declan Rice in the area. Patrick van Aanholt converted into equalise for the visitors.
DERMOTS VERDICT decision.
DERMOT SAYS:It was very close but his [Rices] hands are over his head and in the pre-season advice that is what was mentioned – if you put your hands above your head, its not a pure place.
You can see his hands are far above his head when he handles the ball and it had been said that referees would provide penalties for that and he did. It was also checked by VAR and given the OK.
INCIDENT: Everton defender Seamus Coleman was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. For jumping into Dwight McNeil in a large challenge the foul was a struggle on the next and Erik Pieters.
DERMOTS VERDICT: First was a yellow.
DERMOT SAYS:I believe the very first foul is really a red-card offence by itself. If youre training a man, the first thing you say to them would be if someone overruns the ball – which Seamus will – be prepared when he participates for what may happen.
I dont have any doubt at all that he had no intention of damaging Pieters but he is tackled with his wrong foot and caught him around the crab with his claws. In case the referee sees exactly what weve seen, hed send him off. VAR recommended that it did not meet the threshold therefore that the matter was dealt with.
For the second, the very fact he jumps into McNeil such as he can, the referee sees it as he is leaping at him and Seamus simply accepts it. I believe Seamus is currently thinking, well with what I did in the first half and also exactly what I have done nowI deserve to get sent . Charge to him, he just walks off
INCIDENT: Towards the end of Newcastles triumph, Scott McTominay caught Sean Longstaff about the leg with his claws. It directed to Mike Dean but it was only a yellow card for your Manchester United midfielder.
The VERDICT: Correct decision of DERMOT.
DERMOT SAYS:Theres minimal contact, it is a short distance and I really do think he belongs to pull away. He realises how close Sean Longstaff is also and he is just touched by him. If he wanted to go , he might have carried on, but I think that a yellow card is perfect.
