Stand-in Nottingham Forest captain Ben Watson scored as their Sky Bet Championship run extended to ten games with a win over Brentford his next City Ground winner in successive matches.
Watson, deputising using Michael Dawson sidelined for a second game with a calf injury, hadnt scored for three-and-a-half years before his strike that beat Barnsley 1-0 at home.
The midfielder was the gap against the Bees, scoring a stunning volley at the 56th minute to lift Forest up to second in the table, level on points with leaders West Brom.
It was a goal of exceptional quality in an energetic match which had to wait with Joe Lolleys rising 20-yard strike, till the 16th minute for its opportunity after a run from within the circle.
It was not that a unsatisfactory Brentford side carved out their very first chance, even though Brice Samba awakened a low drive from Josh DaSilva.
Forest swiftly countered, culminating in Lewis Grabbans pull back into the area teeing up Tiago Silva but, Mathias Jensen was able to earn a challenge, together with punishment shouts ignored just as the Portuguese midfielder was about to let fly.
Silvaalmost broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, later Yuri Ribeiro had been brought down by Julian Jeanvier hitting a 25-yard past the right-hand post of Raya.
Together with the final kick of the halfof the Brentford reacted with a delivery in their .
By 35 metres Jensens curler took a wicked deflection off the walls, forcing a Samba once he had originally set off to his best, to hit clear with his left.
The breakthrough finally came 11 minutes after the interval, spawned with a remarkable intervention by Bees skipper Pontus Jansson since he took the ball and away for a corner because the striker lined up an undercover drive.
However from the inswinging delivery, inadvertently flicked by Jeanvier in the near post of Silva, Joe Worrall supplied a header towards Watson who hit a volley.
Was just after the hour after Bryan Mbuemo struck an increasing drive from the border of the region that was two yards across the bar.
On the contrary, it was Forest who should have added to their tally but first Silva flashed a 15-yard shot past Rayas left wing post, while Sammy Ameobi – whod replaced Joao Carvalho in the 64th minute – forced a fine low halt by your Brentford goalkeeper nine minutes in time.
