Romelu Lukaku ready to prove himself with Inter Milan and Belgium, says Roberto Martinez
Romelu Lukaku is in ready for a few of the chapters in his profession with Inter Milan and the shape of his own life, based on Belgium boss Roberto Martinez.
Lukaku secured his transfer two decades following the Chelsea striker joined Manchester United from Everton.
The 26-year-old has two in two and Martinez – who formerly managed Lukaku – states the striker appears like a player reborn.
“That is the very first time that I have seen him free and happy. Going back to many camps I haven’t seen Rom so focused, so happy, so refreshed with the new challenge,” Martinez told me ahead of Belgium’s struggle with Scotland.
“I believe he is now ready to confront among the biggest footballing chapters within his career together with the Inter Milan transfer. And he is driven to be as good as he can for your group, so I’ve been quite impressed with his happiness and how he’s looking forward to the soccer beforehand.
“Romelu is among the contemporary footballers because he had been born with the attention, with the press following him at the age of 16 in Belgium – he had media crews around watching what he had been doing.
“He had been in a group with expectations to succeed at Anderlecht together with Champions League involvement [together with this ].
“He then had a huge transfer to Chelsea. He had his period at West Brom, as you know, afterward a big transfer charge to Everton, another major transfer fee to Manchester United and today to Inter.
“Romelu doesn’t get influenced, he is among the very driven boys you will see. His life is soccer, he simply lives to evaluate goals and also to be effective for the national team and at club level.”
While he has appeared like his normal self in front of goal, the Italian adventure of Lukaku has been somewhat soured by racial abuse directed at him through Inter triumph at Cagliari before the break.
Lukaku has been well rested for Belgium triumph over San Marino however is expected to return on Monday against Scotland and Martinez claims the striker is looking just for his regular self.
“I haven’t seen a difference [as a consequence of the recent episode at Cagliari],” that the Belgium supervisor said.
“It is true he was miserable with all the episode he needed to go through but I am sure that is something which everyone in soccer will attempt to help him with and try to eliminate. There’s not any tolerance for that kind of behaviour.”
Scotland are trying to rebound from a 2-1 home defeat to Russia if they choose on Monday although Friday’s reduction Martinez believes Steve Clarke’s men are a club on the up.
“You’ve got six players at least starting week in, week out in the Premier League, three of those are in the top ten,” he explained.
“This has the makings of a youthful generation with huge potential.
“Now the job is to find that competitive advantage. Steve Clarke needs to get patience time and opportunity to operate at global level how he works at heart level.
“The gift in the Scotland staff is there to be eligible for a major tournament, regardless of that.
“Scotland are probably one or two good results away from being a team that can qualify.”
