WWE Greatest Royal Rumble Pro Wrestling Betting Odds
–The first WWE’Royal Rumble’ PPV was in 1988
–The’Greatest Royal Rumble’ will have an All-time high in 50 entrants
–The’Greatest Royal Rumble’ takes place on April 27, 2018, in the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Just a couple weeks later”Wrestlemania 34″ the WWE will present yet another huge show on April 27, this one known as the’Greatest Royal Rumble’. The entire backstory of the series in addition to the booking is somewhat curious to the point that it’s tough to figure out exactly what’s happening. The show will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi press is calling it the nation’s’most brash and brutal sporting event of 2018.’ It is going to be available live on the WWE Network or PPV depending on the nation. Due to the time difference the card will start at 12:00 Noon Eastern with a preshow beginning at 11:00 AM.
So just how did the WWE end up in Saudi Arabia using a ridiculously piled card just a couple weeks following Wrestlemania? Would you think it is all about money? The series is part of a multiyear’partnership’ between the wrestling promotion as well as the Saudi General Sports Authority. The venture is part of a broader initiative named Saudi Vision 2030 which expects to bring about economic and social reforms in Saudi Arabia with the goal of lessening their reliance on oil exports. Tracy Lee of Newsweek describes it thusly:
The event reflects the Muslim country economic and social reforms aimed at changing Saudi Arabia. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, 32, spearheaded a bigger investment in sports in addition to an initiative dubbed the Vision 2030, that is supposed to decrease the nation’s reliance on oil.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was thrilled:
“The Best Royal Rumble is going to be a spectacle of historic proportions. Our partnership with the Saudi General Sports Authority reflects a long-term commitment to introduce WWE’s world-class amusement to a worldwide audience on a grander scale than previously.”
You are no doubt wondering just how an event of the proportion held in Saudi Arabia will mesh with the WWE’s open concept of support for lovers of all sexual orientations, and of course the work they’ve put into revitalizing their women’s division? It is easy –that the WWE will do exactly what they’re told. Here is the current state of’reform’ in Saudi Arabia, once again in Newsweek’s Lee:
Just last October, the General Sports Authority explained that women for the first time will be permitted to go to sports events in selected stadiums in ancient 2018. The city of Jeddah recently hosted the country’s first women-only cycling event.
It arrived a month after the country decided to lift its ban on female drivers, which has long been viewed as a sign of the country’s repression of women.
Translation–no women’s games on the card without a doubt it is going to be ixnay on the’LGBT approval’ talk.
ALL ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE
The deal with the Saudi General Sports Authority is clearly lucrative enough for the WWE to do anything they are asked as a way to make it happen. How lucrative? Lucrative enough to deliver over close to 100 wrestlers including all of the big guns–Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Kane, The Undertaker as well as Chris Jericho and Triple H. The event has been held at a 65,000 seat stadium meaning a complete house would not be that far off by a’Wrestlemania’ flat attendance. Lucrative enough the promotion may have changed the booking for what is nominally their’marquee event’ aka’Wrestlemania’ to beef up the card for the show at Saudi Arabia. Bryan Alverez of The Wrestling Observer up it:
“So now they have got this giant show in Saudi Arabia. Can you guys know just how much cash WWE could make through deals with Saudi Arabia? So, that’s the priority right now. Not WrestleMania you bought your ticket ”
There has been some backlash about the lack of women’s matches on the series but those inside the business have been mum on the subject, obviously realizing that the WWE is dealing with a huge payday herenow and in the foreseeable future. Furthermore, they may make a few of their fans upset by booking several huge title changes here (like by all accounts an International Championship win by Roman Reigns over Brock Lesnar) however, the WWE is confident it won’t hurt their American viewers. At any rate, there are enough chips at the table at the Middle East to make it worth the risk.
