Capitals sign 2019 draftee Protas
Even the Washington Capitals signed forward Aliaksei Protas, their third-round pick from the 2019 NHL Draft, to some three-year, non-refundable contract value $716,666 each year.
Protas, 18, posted 40 points (11 goals, 29 assists) in 61 games last season to rank seventh in points among rookies in the Western Hockey League. He had 22 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 23 playoff games with the Prince Albert Raiders.
The Capitals chosen Protas using the 91st choice in the draft, obtained by trading their 118th and 129th overall selections in the 2019 draft to the New Jersey Devils.
Protas, from Belarus, represented his country in the 2018 Under-18 World Championship, recording a goal and three assists in four games.
