Raffle Prize chasing Group One glory in Cheveley Park
Raffle Prize will Need to resume winning ways at the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on September 28.
Mark Johnston’s filly has had a year already, winning the Queen Mary in Royal Ascot and the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket.
She took around the colts last time outside in the Prix Morny, once beaten a neck by Andre Fabre’s new star Earthlight dropping in defeat.
Johnston explained:”She will wait for the Cheveley Park now. It was a run that is good and there were no excuses.
“It looked like she’d much prefer better ground, but might apply to this winner.
“You would expect she’d get better ground at Newmarket, as there is no superior fall track than Newmarket. Everything is nice with her, touch wood”
Stablemate Communique could return to Germany in search of a first Group One success – but Johnston is also thinking about Japan Cup along with the Canadian International using a line through his last run behind the highly-impressive Ghaiyyath.
“He basically missed the break drastically with the blindfold still on so that wasn’t him,” said that the Middleham handler.
“There is the Grosser Preis Von Baden in two weeks’ period, but could we dare shoot him back after two crises at Germany? I don’t know. I have not looked at what the alternatives are.
“I would like to see him end the year in the Canadian International and Japan Cup, but I would have liked to be more moving in these races away a leading run. I’d love to believe he might have won a Group One in Germany, but we have experienced two disasters.
“You would think that the Canadian International would be a suitable target, but also you desire to be moving into these races on the back of good runs.”
