Joe Root stated despite failing to recover the Ashes from 20, he is the man to captain England.
Defeat at the fourth Test at Old Trafford left England 2-1 meant the holders will take the urn back down under and down with one match to play with.
Root also presided over England defeat in Australia in 2017-18.
“I have been provided a wonderful chance to captain the Test side and certainly will continue to work very hard at doing my best at this,” said Root.
“That is in my hands I need to make sure I do whatever I can to get this team in the ideal shape to acquire as many games as possible.”
Root, 28, took responsibility for the Test side at the beginning of 2017 and his triumph percent of 50 is far better than all but Michael Vaughan from the previous 38 decades.
Root would become the England skipper since 2001.
“Whenever you get rid of a string, it hurts,” said the Yorkshire batsman. “I must take that on the brow. You need to check at areas you want to improve atboth on your own and as a team.”
He immediately turned his focus to the fifth Test.
England can still draw at 2-2, while a loss would leave them. They’re also searching for things in the World Test Championship that is brand new.
“We’ve to anticipate the next Test match and get something from this series,” he said.
“I understand the Ashes are not coming home, however regarding the Test Championship, these points could be crucial.
“You don’t ever want to lose an Ashes series and every game against Australia matters. Turning up in the Oval and placing in a solid performance to win the game is a must for this group.”

“The men battled extremely bravely. They dug and put a cost on their wicket. That almost makes it a tiny bit more difficult to take but at the exact identical time I could not be more proud with how we fought today.”
