Washington Nationals at St. Louis Cardinals MLB Pick – October 12th

 In Uncategorized

After heading 13-3-1 in the first two rounds of the playoffs, now we hit a speed bump last night in the opening game of the National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals. I felt that the Nats will be mentally and physically drained after a barbarous five-game series from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Washington used all three of their top starters in relief sooner or later in the show, and to me, it felt like they were planning to utilize game you to break up their pitching staff, and put their rotation for the rest of the series, instead of move to extreme lengths to win the game, since they were forced to perform against LA..
They began Anibal Sanchez in game one. Most teams do not even take four starters from the playoffs, so the simple fact that they were turning into Anibal made me sense they were going to ride him before the wheels fell off. And then they did just that. The part that I didnt see coming, however, was that Sanchez will be unhittable. Literally unhittable, as he had a no-hitter going until Jose Martinez broke up it at the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Nationals have been petrified to visit their bullpen in the playoffs outside of nearer Sean Doolittle, and with Sanchez pitching into the eighth inningthey didnt need to. This is the ultimate. They stole advantage away all at once and were able to break starters and their bullpen up. They all of the sudden possess the Cardinals on the ropes since they have ace newcomer Max Scherzer proceeding tonight in game 2, and if St. Louis cant knock off Mad Max, then they will be down 0-2 at home, and the show is essentially over.
Its really not easy to overestimate what a enormous functionality that the past was turned in by Sanchez, and in this time, I would go out on a limb to say that the Nats are the favorites to win the National League pennant. For the pick of today, we will stay right here since the Cardinals as Nationals matchup in game two, using the NLCS.
The St. Louis Cardinals wind up in a must-win scenario tonight at house after dropping game one of the NLCS to Washington. St. Louis must discover a way to knock Washington tonight as home underdogs, or that series has a opportunity to be finished before it really gets started. For Washington, the Nationals would love to knock off the Cardinals back to back matches and head home with a 2 games.
Starting for the Nationals is Max Scherzer (1-0 2.77 ERA), and also for the Cardinals its Adam Wainwright (0-0 0.00 ERA). The match is placed in seven and a half conducts. The Nationals are all -128 road favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 1:08 PM PST out of Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Max Scherzer has done everything that has been asked in the playoffs to get Washington so far for him. Start and win the wild card game against a Milwaukee Brewers team? Check. Come out of the bullpen in a place on the road and close a match down? Check. By throwing seven innings of all one-run ball start and triumph? Check.
It is hard to be far superior than Scherzer has been in this postseason since the Nationals have won every game he has appeared in, and he has only pitched in situations, in which failure wasnt an alternative. Scherzer was bit shaky in September following two stints around the IL, but hes recovered his abilities here from the playoffs, and he looks a lot like the three-time Cy Young Award winner most of us know and adore.
Interestingly , Scherzer has struggled this year against St. Louis. In two starts, hes allowed eight earned runs in two-thirds and thirteen of an inning and has an 0-2 record. Will Mad Max be in a position to keep his furious run on the road? Personally, I believe so.
The Cardinals will appear to fit Scherzer with veteran Adam Wainwright. Wainwright came up completely huge for the Cardinals as the thirty-eight-year-old pitched seven and two-thirds of shutout baseball. But to me, that functionality was a bit fluky. This man did not have since double-digit games were lost by him. And I am not certain hes the guy I would have gone to in a spot. I would have gone with Dakota Hudson or chose the decision that was even better once they saw ten runs to sit down Jack Flaherty in game five against Atlanta.
Thats the elephant in the room in this collection. Jack Flaherty is undoubtedly the best that the Cardinals have as far as pitching goes. They started him in game five of the NLDS, but if they jumped out to an insurmountable lead, they decided to go with Flaherty. And not for two or an inning, they pitched him that the first five, and he is not accessible until game three. When it may be too late for St. Louis.
St. Louis will cover this decision tonight, because they have a lopsided pitching matchup involving a guy that hasnt been elite because 2014, going against a guy that just may be the best pitcher in the league right now. I believe Scherzer is strong tonight. I can not imagine what Scherzer will be capable of, if this team cans shut down. And while Wainwright could be decent, you can not expect him to go toe to toe with Scherzer.
In the end, I believe Washington manages business tonight and carries a massive 2-0 series lead. The Cardinals had to win with the number four man on the mound of Washington. They let him near no-hit them. They need to face some mixture of Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Patrick Corbin and should conquer every one of these. I dont see that occurring. Give me the Washington Nationals as road favorites out of St. Louis!
