Lewis Hamilton on the challenge of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc

Lewis Hamilton says he will have to work”twice as hard” to stay ahead of increasing F1 celebrities Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc and verstappen, together with championship leader Hamilton, have demonstrated the front-running celebrities of this season so far. Mercedes’ Hamilton along with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen have won two of the five races with Ferrari’s Leclerc winning another in his breakthrough victory at Spa final Sunday.
Aged 34, Hamilton has been older than 21-year-olds, 13 years and has been impressed by their own early-career progress.
“They are doing a marvelous job,” Hamilton told Sky Sports in Italy ahead of the weekend’s race in Monza.
“It’s fascinating to watch their travel because I have been there in that era in the previous part of my livelihood and seeing the trials and tribulations you go through. With what they are going through, so I could empathise.
“I’ve got to work twice as hard today to stay ahead of them as they’re fresh and young and energised, and it’s harder when you get older to stay as fit, as driven and as eloquent.”
Although Verstappen and Leclerc are all leading the sport’s next generation of drivers, Hamilton stays F1’s standard-bearer and leads the world championship by a sizable margin with eight races.
The five-time champion insists”I frankly don’t know the amount of points I’ve” but says he keeps tabs on his own race ending positions and”that is exactly what I try to keep as large as you can”.
“I don’t have any idea if and when or how the remaining part of the championship will go but I have to attempt to make sure I keep hitting this elevated level,” said the winner of eight of 2019’s hitherto 13 races.
Mercedes would be the defending five-time winners of the GP because the current engine era started in 2014, with gone unbeaten at the quickest circuit of F1. Hamilton is the Monza file holder with five victories.
